Field ecologist

About the role

You will spend most of the year outdoors. Peat depth surveys, drain mapping, vegetation and breeding bird surveys, dipwell installation and the monitoring record that underpins carbon unit verification all sit with this role, alongside supervising contractors during the restoration season.

Responsibilities

• Run peat depth, condition and vegetation surveys across upland sites
• Map artificial drainage and design the blocking strategy for each catchment
• Install and maintain dipwells, and keep the hydrological monitoring record
• Supervise restoration contractors and sign off completed works
• Compile the evidence pack that supports carbon unit verification

What we are looking for

• A relevant degree in ecology, environmental science or physical geography
• Survey licenses appropriate to the species you will encounter
• Genuine field stamina across a long season
• A driving license and a tolerance for horizontal rain, both non-negotiable
