Renewable energy project engineer

About the role

You will own the technical side of a portfolio of solar and storage projects: reviewing yield models, specifying equipment, running design reviews, supervising construction and signing off commissioning tests. You will also be the person who notices that the access road cannot take the transport, which is a larger part of the job than the title suggests.

Roughly half your time is on site. The other half is design review, procurement and the reports that keep a lender comfortable.

Responsibilities

• Review yield models and challenge the assumptions behind P50 and P90 figures
• Specify modules, inverters, trackers and storage, and run the technical evaluation
• Chair design reviews and hold the contractor to the issued-for-construction set
• Supervise construction, witness commissioning and close out the punch list
• Write the owner’s engineer reports that lenders and insurers rely on

What we are looking for

• A degree in electrical or mechanical engineering
• Three or more years on renewable generation projects, ideally on the owner’s side
• Working knowledge of grid codes and interconnection studies in at least one market
• A willingness to spend meaningful time on site rather than in a model
