Senior sustainability consultant

Chicago, IL — hybrid
Full time
$115,000 – $140,000
Lead materiality assessments and target-setting engagements for listed clients, and own the roadmap that comes out of them.
Senior sustainability consultant

About the role

You will run client engagements end to end: scoping, stakeholder interviews, double materiality analysis, and the abatement modeling that turns a material topic into a funded commitment. Most of your clients will be at the point where a voluntary program has to become an assured disclosure, and they will need someone who can tell them plainly when a target is not achievable on the current capital plan.

You will carry two or three engagements at a time, with an analyst on each, and you will be the name the client calls between meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Scope and lead double materiality assessments for listed and pre-IPO clients
  • Build marginal abatement cost curves from the client’s own capital plan
  • Set science-aligned targets and test them against financeable interventions
  • Present findings to executive committees and, where asked, to boards
  • Mentor analysts and review their models before anything reaches a client

What we are looking for

  • Five or more years in sustainability consulting or an in-house sustainability function
  • Fluency in at least one major reporting framework, and working knowledge of two more
  • The modeling skills to build an abatement curve without outsourcing it
  • The judgment to say plainly when a commitment is not achievable

Benefits

  • Salary reviewed annually against an external benchmark, published internally
  • Hybrid working with two fixed office days, and no expectation of travel beyond one week a month
  • A learning budget of $3,500 a year, including professional membership
  • Health, dental and vision cover from day one, with no waiting period
  • Twenty-five days of leave plus public holidays, rising by one day for each year served

Hiring process

  • Submit your application, with a short note on an engagement you are proud of
  • A thirty-minute conversation with our talent lead
  • A technical session built around a real abatement problem, with preparation time
  • A final conversation with the practice lead
  • Offer, references and a start date that respects your notice period
